Merit Badges are an important part of the BSA's advancement program. They are needed to advance in rank and a total of 21 are needed if scouts choose to earn BSA's highest rank of Eagle Scout.
With over a 100 Merit Badges to choose from, our scouts can choose from a variety of hobbies, activities, and vocations to learn about.
Troop 49 has a cadre of merit badge counselors who together can teach a great number of topics. If we don't have a counselor for a specific merit badge, we can usually find one for you.
In order to run a merit badge course during Troop time, please discuss this with our Scoutmaster and at the PLC. If we run a Merit Badge Course during Troop Time, we would plan to deliver a quality course and not cut corners. Scouts and adult leaders are often surprised at the number of meetings required to deliver the course material.
We can also schedule Merit Badge Courses outside of scheduled Troop Meetings. These can be done in person and sometimes virtually, depending on the topic and who is interested. We also sometimes invite other troops or other scouts in the council to join in.
